Criminal Background Checks: A Step Towards Safer Connections

Many dating sites are experimenting with some type of background check. We are all struggling with finding ways to bring more trust into online dating system.

Match.com invested over $1 million in Garbo--a non-invasive background check system. Because Garbo didn't ask too many questions about you, it also came up with so many false positives as to render it's assessments worthless. Match.com ended up abandoning their partnership with Garbo.

We already have effective background checks

It's not like we don't know how to do this. Many of us already have to deal with criminal background checks as part of our employment. They are invasive. They want social security numbers and government IDs. We deal with it because it gets us something we want.

CNM4US to Experiment with Criminal Background Checks

CNM4US is partnering with Checkr for Criminal Background Checks. CNM4US does not receive your personal information. However, Checkr will send us a report and provide a status of Clear or Not Clear. In turn, CNM4US will assign a Cleared: Background Check badge to your profile.

What's the Deal?

Here's the kicker: For a limited time, we'll cover the cost of your background check! You'll initially pay a $50 fee, but once you complete the check—regardless of the outcome—we'll refund you the full amount. We're doing this because we want to incentivize you to go through the entire process.

Why Should You Care?

Standout from the crowd. Single males are a dime a dozen on lifestyle sites. Now, dependable, trustworthy singles males--that's another matter.

You are more likely to be contacted by other interested members. It's like a trust badge; it tells other members that you've gone the extra mile to ensure you're on the up-and-up.

Every profile has a section called Single Male Contact. The options are as follows:

• _Blank_ (OK to contact)
• Single males may reach out and contact us (OK to contact)
• Single males may contact us if they've completed ID Verification and Criminal Background Check (OK to contact - if you've completed these)
• We will initiate contact with single males if the mood strikes us (Do not contact)
• We do not wish any contact from single males (Do not contact)

How Does It Work?

Checkr is our Criminal Background Check provider. They have thousands of customers Some of their more notable customers include Uber, Lyft, DoorDash, TaskRabbit, InstaCart, and many many more.

This is the exactly the same type of background check that you would go through for many types of jobs. Instead of getting a job after you clear the Background Check, you get a badge on your profile.

We've partnered with Checkr to conduct these background checks. If you opt in, Checkr will email you a URL where you can provide your information securely. The types of searches conducted include:

- National Search
- Federal Search
- State Search
- County Searches
- Sex Offender Registry Search
- Global Watch List Search
- SSN Number Trace (only Checkr sees your complete SSN)

The process usually takes 3-5 business days. Once completed, we'll receive your full name, DOB, and the last four digits of your SSN, along with summary information on any criminal charges.

How to Order Your Background Check

You must complete your ID Verification with Veriff. Checkr assumes we've seen your ID and your ID matches YOU.  Veriff compares your ID with a live video of your face and uses AI to ensure that your ID matches YOU. If you signed up for CNM4US.com with the package named, "Age Verified by ID", then you are good, that part is done.

1. You can purchase the Criminal Background Check in the Marketplace.
2. After you've completed the purchase using PayPal, Admin will provide Checkr with the email address associated with your profile.
3. Checkr will notify Admin once you've completed the process.
4. Admin will then refund you the $50.00 regardless of whether you pass the background check or not.

Assuming your background check comes back CLEAR, Admin will then attach a Criminal Background Check badge to your profile.

If you don't agree with something on your report, Checkr has a process to challenge incorrect information. It's up to you to work that out with Checkr.

Disputing Findings

We tried out several criminal background check services. They seemed quited good at determining every place I had every lived or worked. One of the common problems is that they return some erroneous records. It's possible that someone mistyped their SSN, which was very similar to my SSN on their rental or employment application. It's also possible that someone intentionally used my SSN because they didn't have one of their own. All of the Criminal background check services returned 1 or 2 records that were clearly not related to me. Fortunately, those records were not associated with any criminal activity. So, my criminal background checks came back all CLEAR.

However, I can see how someone's criminal background might come back with a false positive. Indeed, these services seem to be keenly aware of that possibility. They all have processes in place to challenge false positives or erroneous information.

Just because a member doesn't have a background check badge doesn't mean they're not trustworthy. Many people are cautious about sharing personal information, and some may have minor offenses like drug possession or peaceful civil disobedience that don't necessarily make them dangerous to date.
